SUPER BLOOD MOON ECLIPSE in Tulum Mexico

SUPER BLOOD MOON ECLIPSE in Tulum Mexico

What does a FULL MOON do to you? Does it keep you up all night? Do you have vivid dreams and deja-vus? Do you ponder your connection to the Cosmos and how the cycles of our Earth are so perfect, so constant? Maybe you are moodier, or WILDER, or moody and wild hence the term LUNATIC (derived from the word LUNA= MOON in Spanish). Today as I write this it is the Full Moon above me/us that has me a little cuckoo. Maybe it’s the Jetlag, or the coffee I drank at 11pm, but I am now writing to you all from ESPAÑA (just landed down in Galicia TODAY) so it could be a combination of all of these things. I am excited to share with you a little about the beauty of the SUPER BLOOD MOON ECLIPSE I witnessed from the Caribbean coast of México in TULUM on September 27th.

Why was it special? What is so special about a Full Moon or Eclipse anyways? Well in this case, the Moon reached its full phase closest to Earth, making it appear visibly HUGE or “SUPER” and of course Very Bright as well. Now a Total Lunar Eclipse happens when the Earth’s shadow completely blocks the Moon. . . in other words, LIGHT’S OUT! eeeeek! Run for cover? Make love or kiss your children for the last time perhaps? Sometimes that’s just what the ancients did. . .  Run or hide or pray for the best possible outcome. An event like this sparked both fear and curiosity in people centuries ago. . . and what’s changed?

I mean, for me just 2 months ago while lying on that beach in TULUM underneath the clearest night’s sky a chill ran through me when the Moon began disappearing (not necessarily fear). Then a curiosity and the need to contemplate came over me, to really and truly connect heart and mind to see what was ending for me & what could be beginning… what was dying & what was being born by this Lunar Event. The last supermoon eclipse occurred in 1982 (I wasn’t even born yet) and the next happens in 2033 (in the way Future … you seem so far away right now robot world).

So these events are RARE, they are SPECIAL, and personally I settled some things in quiet contemplation under the stars this September.

When the Moon disappeared over a period of about an hour, the Stars actually shined brighter then ever, constellations upon constellations shining for you/me. Did you see them? Did you look up into the sky that night? If you didn’t, you could mark your calendar now for 2033. . . and if you don’t want to wait that long, well then look up at the sky on any Full Moon night (like Tonight: November 25, 2015) and take a moment, just one moment of gratitude for the cycles, the constant perfect cycles. I forgot to mention how I got to witness this from the Beach. . . I booked one night’s stay at UNO ASTRO LODGE specifically for this event. I splurged for this one night, about $115 spent to stay in the WISDOM TOWER overlooking the ocean and also the pristine jungle behind me.

Jungle View in TulumI wanted to see the Moon rise over the water, disappear over the water, then return in all its glory, all from the white sands beach. The “hotel” (I will use this word loosely) is more of an Eco Friendly Lodge with Cabanas and tent options, no electricity (candles only folks), “organic and earth friendly toilets” and of course the biggest perk being the ocean view and proximity to the water for swimming. It was exactly what I needed. Add to this the spiritual factor of the place, with individuals working here who care about the Earth and want to spread lots of love through Yoga and Meditation, I couldn’t be happier for the recommendation to stay here.

Comfy HUGE bed with mosquito net, yummy healthy breakfast INCLUDED, hamacas for napping/swaying/relaxing. . . and #1 reason to stay here: WARM CARIBBEAN WATERS!!! (but you knew I was going to say that already) I swam about 3 times a day the one night/two days I was a guest here. Again, being **low season in México allowed me to check in early to my gorgeous Tower, have my first swim before Noon, and of course, sun and then pass out in a hamaca. All were great preparation for the long night ahead of watching the Moon above.

LUNA! Qué increíble eres! MOON, how incredible you are!

There you have it. Tulum’s magic, whether visiting Mayan Ruins or swimming in its healing waters, isn’t going anywhere. Experience it for yourself.
